Nibia’s Family, Uruguay (FVP Story 2021.)
Nibia is Country Leader of Global Peace Women Uruguay. As a couple, Nibia and her husband have worked for decades to advance peace and development in Latin America and the world. Their love is bound by their unwavering commitment to serve humanity.
When we met, Jorge was founding the Uruguay Leadership Conference and deeply involved with the Global Peace Foundation. The vision and the principles that guided this work resonated closely with my Catholic roots.
Today, we are almost inseparable in time and place. I believe that we could not have done everything we did in Uruguay and Latin America without being emotionally and spiritually united as a couple. The public mission became a source of our unity and family pride.
At first I supported him with his work. Gradually, I also began assuming leadership roles. I support him as vice-president of the Uruguay Leadership Conference. I stood by him during the formation of the Latin American Presidential Mission, and when he formed GPW Uruguay, I became its president. GPW-Uruguay still sees him as part of the organization because he is always there to help, from room bookings to powerpoints. We help each other. Right now we are fully involved in the launching and success of the Legacy of the Americas program connecting former heads of states and rising youth leaders.
Something that always strengthened me and gave me confidence was seeing how my husband values me, helps me to rise and is not jealous of my success but on the contrary tells it with great joy. At the same time, I am proud of what he has accomplished.
Although I have a very different past from Jorge's, it is as if God's providence has prepared us to do something good and important together. We pray to God for our love and commitment to our family. May it not diminish with the harsh tests we go through, but rather grow stronger.
