As part of the larger Korean Dream 10 Million Campaign, Global Peace Women (GPW) launched the Korean Dream Family Challenge on 8th September, aligning with this year’s celebration of the International Day of Peace. This initiative aims to bring families, volunteers, and communities together in a shared effort to promote unity, peace, and hope, both within families and across borders. It mirrors the vision of a unified Korea, which is at the heart of the Korean Dream campaign.
The Korean Dream 10 Million Campaign is an ongoing, four-year initiative, aiming to raise 10 million Korean Dreamers by 2025. This grassroots movement, spearheaded by Koreans and supported globally, advocates for peace, unification, and freedom on the Korean Peninsula. The campaign envisions a Korea free from division, exemplifying peace that will resonate across the world. Families and communities are a cornerstone of this vision, and this challenge offers them a way to take meaningful action.
The Korean Dream Family Challenge saw families of Sunshine family Volunteers (SFV) who believe that peace begins in the home actively participate, across eight countries, reflecting the campaign’s global reach. The participants hailed from: Bangladesh, Cameroon, Japan, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, South Korea and USA. Through creativity and teamwork, families explored ways to embody and promote the principles of peace that underlie the Korean Dream—peace, not only for Korea but for the entire world.
The Challenge culminated in an award ceremony scheduled for 28th September at 1 PM UTC, where three top winners were recognized for their outstanding contributions:
1. First Place: Anang Christy Ijang, from Cameroon
2. Second Place: Dalyop Daniel David, from Nigeria
3. Third Place (Joint Winners): Sotonye Christy Jackreece Smith from Nigeria and Shanti Tamang from Nepal
In addition, 14 participants were honored with Participation Awards, recognizing their efforts in supporting this meaningful cause.
At the core of the Korean Dream 10 Million Campaign is the belief in a free and unified Korea. This dream envisions a future where North and South Korea, divided by the 38th parallel for over 70 years, can reunite peacefully, creating a stronger and more prosperous Korea that contributes positively to the world. The Korean Dream draws from Korea’s rich 5,000-year history, particularly the philosophy of Hongik Ingan—the idea that Koreans are destined to live for the greater good of humanity. Through this campaign, individuals and families around the world are encouraged to participate in spreading this dream, making a positive difference through collective efforts for peace.
As part of the Korean Dream Family Challenge, GPW developed a workbook to guide participants in understanding and promoting the Korean Dream within their families and communities. This workbook provides practical activities and insights on how families can become peacebuilders. As the initiative continues to grow, GPW is working on further enhancing this resource to support even more families in their journey towards peace.
Guided by the vision of "One Family under God" the Korean Dream Family Challenge calls for a world where all of humanity is united in peace, recognizing our shared responsibility to care for one another. When families and individuals collectively dream of a better, and more harmonious world, that shared vision has the power to become reality.
