Ayushi’s Family, Nepal ( FVP story 2012.12)
It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else! It is exactly what Khatiwada Ayushi put into practice during the Family Volunteer for Peace (FVP) Project.
Ayushi is from Kathmandu, Nepal. She belongs to a family of four including herself with her mum, dad and sister. The Khatiwada family’s FVP addressed the issue of poverty among the daily wage workers and labourers. They donated basic food items to 15 families with very low income. Ayusha addressed poverty as a social issue because it’s one of the growing problems in Nepal as a result of the pandemic.
Ayushi’s mother had always longed for such times of supporting poor families, a practice she picked from her parents but had never got an opportunity to do so. However, she was glad that her own children initiated something in that line and promised to offer all the necessary support.
Ayushi said. “I am very glad to be part of this program, working along with the family for the better cause (my very first ever experience) and being able to help these families”. She also expressed that it was a fun and interesting experience to work together as a family.
Ayushi’s sister said that she was fascinated about her sister working in the social field and this time she got the chance too. She was glad to be a part of the activity.
The future plans for Ayushi is that she wants to work in the field of peacekeeping and wants to bring positive change. The project helped her understand that volunteering with your family is different as you get to learn and value the project more.
The family did this kind of community initiative for the first time and they are planning for next activity in the next month. They look forward to more other activities in future.
What a great way to start volunteering with your family! Good job Ayushi and her family!
