Elizabeth’s Family, Paraguay (FVP Story 2021.)
Service is a part of Elizabeth’s family. Even now, despite everyone’s busy schedules, they gather things: clothes, bags, furniture, several times a year, and bring it to families that they regularly visit in the interior of the country. The most recent delivery was in April. This is a tradition they began more than 10 years ago.
The Acosta family’s service goes beyond these regular visits. They are always ready to visit a sick neighbor or relative with food and medicine. And a year ago, they opened up their home to house a friend who is studying in the city.
Elizabeth grew up volunteering with her family. Today she is teaching her little sister the value of volunteering. “I am happy to volunteer. There is a powerful thing that I feel when I do these activities. It is important that she learns these things and volunteers in the future.”
For Elizabeth it is more than just the good feeling, it is a change that she is starting. “I feel really good when I can help someone with whatever I can. I feel useful, for society, for others when I help others grow. Then others will help others to grow up. It will be a big circle. It will have a great impact on the people that you can add something to their life. You can offer all the things for a good purpose.”
Elizabeth describes service as an action that generates good. Serving doesn’t just benefit the beneficiaries, it benefits the person serving. It is a circle that continues to grow as those who received learn to give and expand the circle of giving.
