GPW Korea stands Against Cyberbullying

August 26, 2022

The Korean National Police Agency statistics report more than 80,000 cases of cyberbullying since 2014 in South Korea. Along with the country, the whole world has encountered online bullying, impacting people from all walks of life.

On August 16, to counter cyberbullying, GPW Korea joined a coalition that includes the National Children's Safety Network, the Seoul City Women's Association, and the Korean Women Voters Seoul Federation to launch a safety campaign against cyberbullying at the intersection in front of the National Assembly and KBS.  Under the slogan of ‘Let’s prevent cyberbullying among youth’, the campaign is a part of the Seoul Gender Equality Fund project aimed to raise social interest in cyberbullying prevention and promote sound information and communication ethics awareness.

Chairman Lee Jung-en of the Seoul Women’s Association launched the safety campaign, and over 80 youth volunteers were appointed as the 6th Korean Youth 112 Safety Keepers at the event. The Safety Keeper helps prevent cyberbullying and spread a healthy cyber culture through the campaign targeting citizens with a signet pledging to ‘prevent cyberbullying’ and ‘practice a healthy cyber culture. The campaign also aimed to establish a safety net connecting students and civil societies.

The SPOTV commentator and ambassador for the National Children's and Women's Safety NetworkYang Sang-moon, and Rep. Lee Man-hee also participated in the campaign. Rep. Lee Man-hee said, “So far, the Korean Youth 112 Safety Keepers have made a great contribution to the spread of a safety culture in our daily life through various campaigns. I will do my best to make it happen.”

Cyberbullying is a pressing issue of this generation, and GPW Korea’s initiative is a good step towards a healthy digital environment. GPW Korea hopes to continue its partnership and continue its work on building a safer and better place for children, youths and adults alike.
