“Charity Begins at home; change begins with us. Let’s teach each other the importance of peace.” - Group 5, Message for the world.
On the occasion of International Day of Peace on September 22, GPW Nigeria, in partnership with Peace Panel Center, organized a documentary screening event of “Sara’s Story: Peace building in Education.” Fifty students from Government Girls Secondary School in Doka, Kaduna participated in the program and engaged in deep discussions on peace and peace building.
In addition to the screening, the students engaged in a group exercise on peace building in education. Divided into five groups, the girls discussed the lessons learned from the documentary, and each group came up with a message to share with the world. The 5 Groups messages were one of peace, hope, and faith for a better and peaceful world, and they read as:
Group 1: We want unity and faith in the world.
Group 2: We want peace in our communities.
Group 3: Let’s learn to love one another and respect one another.
Group 4: Let’s live in peace and harmony with each other in a world without crisis.
Group 5: Charity Begins at home. Change begins with us. Let’s teach each other the importance of peace.
The screening event was successful in helping young girls think of peace and ways to achieve it in their homes, communities, nation, and the world. Days like the International Day of Peace help us recognize the importance of peace and ground us in the world's reality, building tolerance and urging a peaceful world.
GPW and its chapter look forward to celebrating such days and continuing the vision of peace, starting from homes, schools, and communities and finally expanding to nations and the world.
