GPW and GPF Tanzania have been working for nearly a year on empowering women in local decision making processes and mitigating violent extremism through the Bagamoyo Empowerment Program. The program brought together 15 other organizations, along with Women and Peace Network and Sisters Without Borders, to develop unity and collective action in accelerating women's participation in violence prevention and peace sustainability in promoting Women, Peace and Security Agenda in Tanzania.

The ‘Bagamoyo Empowerment Program’ has been creating support and systems for women and girls to participate in local governing in the following ways:
The collective efforts of all the fifteen partners have been fruitful in fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of women’s indispensable role in peacebuilding. Peace begins in the home, and women can be active agents of peace starting from family to communities to nations and the world.
GPW recognizes the important role and contribution of women in peacebuilding. Our local projects support women in peacebuilding and development around the world. If you want to know more about GPW’s work, please subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on our social media.
