It is always super fun, jamming our favourite songs with family members. The pandemic lockdown in 2021 provided time to do just that.
When the pandemic struck and the lockdown happened, we were all stuck inside our homes. While it was a difficult time, we got to spend more time together as a family. We are no professionals, but we are a family of music lovers and with music, we got together.
We sat together and played our favorite songs. We created our family YouTube Account ‘S4D Fam Jam’; a collective name from the first letter of our first names and uploaded the songs we played in our room.
We traveled through time as we played folk songs of the past of our grandparents to new songs of the present. With my father (Sanjaya Shakya) on the table, mother (Darpana Shakya) on Sitar, Susanna Shakya (older sister) on Tambourine/Singer, Sandarva Shakya (younger brother) on Guitar, and me (Samriddhi Shakya) on flute/violin.

"As we practiced songs and played together, we grew closer as a family. A deep appreciation grew for my parents’ talents. It was fun to play and looking back, I appreciate the time we had. Although the lockdown has lifted, we find time together and play. I am really grateful for the time that the lockdown provided us with. "Samriddhi Shakya, Nepal.
Music can indeed create healthier and happier familial bonds. Samriddhi’s family story has proved just that. A lesson that was reflected in GPW’s 2021 webinar session, ‘How to Use Music to Connect Generations’. Read the webinar here: https://www.globalpeacewomen.org/stories/
