Fatima’s Family, Nigeria (FVP Story 2021.)
What does soap, toilet cleaner and detergent have to do with bonding as a family? For Fatima and her brothers, sisters and cousins, the cleaners were part of special family bonding time. Fatima’s family of six bought cleaners and shared them with neighbors in her sister’s community for their Family Volunteers for Peace project.
Sometimes it just takes a little extra thought, and a little extra time and a little extra funds to do something good. And when you do good together as a family, everyone gains something that lasts a lifetime for that little extra effort.
Fatima introduced the Family Volunteers for Peace project to her family. They agreed to pool money together to share cleaning products with their sister’s neighbors in Walawai, Nigeria.
They visited three households in the community, spending time and reconnecting.
The children were very excited to be a part of the Family Volunteers for Peace project. For Fatima, it was “an amazing experience.” Aisha reflected, “it has been a great experience reaching out to my neighbors as a family.”
Fatima looks forward to continuing sharing with her family. They will encourage other families to do the same. “As we give back to their society as a family, we bond as a family and teach our children the values of caring and sharing.
