Sapana’s Family, Nepal (FVP Story 2021)
Sapana deeply empathizes with the families of wage workers, especially the mothers. Sapana used to be a daily wage worker herself. When Global Peace Women started the "Project Samudaya Sewa," Project Community Service during the COVID19 lockdowns in Nepal, , she jumped on the chance to involve her husband and daughter with the project. She wanted to help those hard-pressed families and also teach her daughter empathy and compassion.
“I was also a wage labor worker once. I know how difficult it must be for women who can't feed their children. I wanted my daughter to learn about hardship and the feeling of giving back to the community. I was really very happy that my daughter helped me and was actively involved in every activity”, said Sapana.
Sapana and her daughter, sister and husband identified 15 labourers’ families most affected by lockdowns and distributed groceries and medical supplies for a month.
Sapana’s daughter Sasita took an active role, helping in all phases of the project. She grew to love volunteering. “When I heard about Family Volunteers for Peace, I was really interested. I wanted to do something in the period of crisis but did not know I could start from my own family. I learned many things from my mother and realized she has a big heart. I will continue to help my society no matter what.” said Sasita.
“I was really happy that I was teaching my daughter something that will last with her all her life. This was a value I added in her life which will pass on to generation and help in developing a peaceful family/community,” reflected Sapana.
Sapana says she will continue her FVP with her sister, Sandhya will encourage other family members to join, too. Well Done, Sapana’s family!
