The Global Peacebuilders fellows from GPW Nepal have raised active agents of service with their simple acts of kindness to their community. The program launched in April and concluded in November. Under the Global Peacebuilders program, these young fellows have conducted a range of different service programs to foster a culture of service and peace in their homes and in societies.

Recently, the peacebuilders fellows also visited two orphanages as they celebrated pre-Dashain with the children. They spent the afternoon with the children as they shared their love and warmth with gift boxes and letters of encouragement to each individual child.

Similarly, on International Peace Day, the fellows joined the international commemoration for peace with a video message from their collective voices.

Another peacebuilder fellow, Sonu Gyawali is providing spiritual education and awareness on selfless action, awareness, and devotion from the ‘Bhagvad Gita’. Sonu encourages youths to bring peace and smiles to each other's lives.

Likewise, during the Covid19 lockdown, fellows contributed to Project “Samudayik Sewa” where they shared food reliefs to their communities and families during Covid19 lockdown. Aruna Poudel, a social-work student from the program shared, “My passion for helping the helpless is one reason I am inspired to become a social worker”. Aruna had collaborated with a local organization ‘Chetanshil Pratisthan’ to distribute hygiene kits to 30 students and 5 parents in her community.

Project Samudayik Sewa is a joint effort of GPW Nepal with GPF to help families of daily wage workers and people with disabilities struggling during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown. The project has reached 366 families in 25 communities and is preparing relief for 200 more families.

These young peacebuilders have been promoting peace and service in their communities. They have been given the opportunity to learn, engage and create impact through the Global Peacebuilders Program. The seven-month-long program included sessions and workshops on leadership, capacity building, motivation, and self-care.  We look forward to the future work they will do to build peace in our world.
