“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” – Princess Diana
Global Peace Women and Global Peace Foundation Philippines started off the holiday season in November with a special Halloween Project. The Halloween Project is a combination of activities as Quaran-Trick or Treat, pre-Christmas gift-giving, and family volunteerism to light the holiday spark dimmed by the pandemic. This special event reached 180 beneficiaries.
The ‘Quaran - Trick or Treat’ was a Halloween event for the kids which featured “loot bags full of goodies” which helped “cheer up the kids”. Loma, a mother in the even said, “ I’m so inspired that my kids have the opportunity to enjoy things like the Halloween party despite pandemic. This is the first time they went outside. I hope we can all back to normal and the virus will totally go away.”
The project sparked by GPW and the Mira family’s ‘’Kindness through Family Service ‘Community Pantry’ has fed local neighbor families and provided safe places for out-of-school children through the course of pandemic lockdowns. Malia, a regular of the pantry expressed, “Our family has very limited resources, the pantry helps us in a way. I hope they will continue to help families like us.”
The additional giving hopes to supply families ahead of the Christmas season. GPW Philippines, with partners like GPF, Inner Wheel and YWCA are happy to have been able to reach many families and spread love, kindness, and joy in families during these tough times.
