Bringing Women and Families to the Peacebuilding Table

At Global Peace Women, we bring women and families to the peacebuilding process. Established in 2011 under the Global Peace Foundation, we became an independent nonprofit in 2020, dedicated to empowering women and families as peacemakers. We believe that “Peace Begins in the Home,” and encourage women and families to invest in the vision of global peace, “One Family under God.”

History

Global Peace Women Co-Founders Drs. Hyun Jin and Junsook Moon grew up with regular air raid drills in South Korea, a divided homeland on the brink of war. Like millions of Koreans, their hearts ached for relatives living north of the demilitarized zone, a constant reminder that love for family transcends national and political boundaries. The couple’s yearning for peace inspired travels to more than 30 countries, where they advocated for community service, interreligious cooperation, and servant leadership as powerful drivers of peace.

Behind their approach is the conviction that everyone is part of the same human family, regardless of race, nationality, or religion. And because families are an essential building block of society, Drs. Hyun Jin and Junsook Moon believe that peace should take root in the home. As the parents of nine children, they experience family as the best place to learn about and practice skills for building peace. They especially feel that, around the world, women are crucial to creating families and societies that further a world of peace.

In 2011, Global Peace Women was launched as a division of the Global Peace Foundation to elevate the role of women as peacemakers. In 2020, GPW became an independent nonprofit to better focus its mission of uplifting women’s essential role as peacemakers based on the vision of one family under God.
