Mbarara District in Uganda has been pointed out as one of the HIV/AIDS- endemic region in the country. Statistics shared in January 2021 by The Monitor Uganda, revealed that the current infection rate stands at 6.1% with the number of infected females at 6.8% compared to males who are at 3.9%. The research attributed this trend to the high numbers of bars and lodges frequented by sex workers who receive high traffic of trans-boundary travelers especially truck drivers’ en route to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Burundi.

Global Peace Women believes that women play a crucial role in influencing their family culture as well as establishing healthy and resilient families. At GPW, we seek to uplift women’s self-respect, confidence and love by empowering them through training and capacity building programs. We share messages of hope and support women-led initiatives that create a positive impact in the world through the Global Women’s Dream Grant, a joint initiative with Service for Peace Korea.

In the period between May and September 2022, Global Peace Women in partnership with Mbarara District Local Government and Community Development officers from Katete Ward, Nyamitiga Division empowered 20 girls and young women aged between 15-25 years with information to enable them prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. The initiative was led by Jalia Muntu, a GPWLA Graduate upon receipt of the GWD grant in March 2022. The training also addressed the impacts of HIV/AIDS on rural girls, women and orphans in the community.

The participants engaged in a series of activities that educated them on the topic and equipped them with crucial skills to improve their livelihoods. The project team sensitized the participants on the importance of getting tested with a view to preventing new infections. They also encouraged the participants to take appropriate action to know their status by linking them to Health Centers in the community for HIV/AIDS testing and counseling by experts from district HQs and TASA-UGANDA.

“We composed songs and poems on HIV/AIDS to help participants explore diverse ways of also pass the message to their peers post the project,” she said about the girls who were empowered to become ambassadors of HIV/AIDS prevention in their community and the nation.

In addition, the project sought to address the social-economic factors that facilitate the spread of HIV/AIDS among women in the community. Poverty was pointed out as a key contributing factor and thus the project trained the participants on Household Economic Strengthening activities such as making hand sanitizers and re-usable sanitary pads. In addition, the participants learnt how to make bar soaps.

‍

The participants were grateful to GPW for the learning and empowerment opportunity.

“People with HIV/AIDS are nothing to be afraid of, they are people just like every single one of us and each of us has a story to tell,” shared Namara Christine who was a participant.

“It is bad enough that people are dying of AIDS, but no one should die of ignorance,” said Huziri Sekaita, who was a volunteer.

The post project survey revealed that 80% of the participants were able to differentiate HIV and AIDS, know the causes, preventive measures and positive living as compared to the 40% result recorded in the pre survey. Thanking GPW for the support in shining hope through education and empowerment for the vulnerable in her community, Jalia added;“Only the light of knowledge about HIV/AIDS can rid us from the darkness of fear, misconception and pain.”

In the tranquil countryside of Adamawa State, amidst the gentle sway of wheat fields in Yola-South Local Government Area, Nigeria, a compelling narrative of transformation unfolds. At its heart lies Afi Obot, a beacon of hope for 30 women farmers seeking a path to prosperity in their rural community. Spearheading the ‘Flourishing Together project’, Afi embarked on a mission to empower these women, who are the backbone of their households.

Afi’s vision extends beyond mere farming; it encompasses women’s empowerment, growth, and resilience through mentorship in wheat farming, financial management, and family values. However, Afi’s journey towards leadership and empowerment didn’t begin with this project. She joined Global Peace Women (GPW) in 2022 as a participant in the Global Peace Women Leadership Academy (GPWLA) which cultivated this desire.

GPW works towards empowering service minded women to become Moral and Innovative leaders and create positive impacts in their societies. As a participant in GPWLA, Afi gleaned invaluable insights into leadership, service, and community development. Armed with a robust toolkit acquired through the program, Afi seamlessly integrated its teachings into her initiative.

This equipped her with the skills and resources needed to surmount challenges and catalyze meaningful change in her rural community. Thus, she devised a comprehensive strategy for the Flourishing Together project, focusing on empowering women farmers through mentorship across various agricultural aspects, financial management, and family values.

Over five months, from April to August 2023, Afi led the women farmers on a transformative journey. Through practical demonstrations and hands-on training, she bestowed upon them the skills and confidence required to excel in their agricultural endeavors.

As the project unfolded, its impact became increasingly palpable. The women embraced sustainable farming practices, elevating their productivity while nurturing the environment. Their incomes surged by 50%, paralleled by an enhancement in their social standing within the community.

Under Afi Obot’s mentorship, the women farmers embraced an array of sustainable farming techniques, significantly bolstering their productivity and environmental stewardship. These practices encompassed crop rotation, organic fertilization, and water conservation methods. By adopting these strategies, the farmers not only amplified their yields but also contributed to the long-term sustainability of their agricultural pursuits, safeguarding the land for posterity.

Yet, the Flourishing Together project transcended mere economic empowerment. Recognizing the paramountcy of fostering robust family dynamics and imbuing values of dignity and respect, Afi conducted workshops on family planning, communication, and conflict resolution. Consequently, there was a remarkable 70% improvement in family dynamics among participants.

As the project drew to a close, the fields bore witness to the fruition of Afi’s endeavors. The once marginalized and overlooked women now emerged as leaders in their community. Their triumphs reverberated through the countryside, inspiring others to tread the path they had paved.

For Afi Obot, the journey continues unabated. As she reflects on the impact of the Flourishing Together project, she envisions not merely fields of wheat but fields of opportunity and promise. With each dawn, she persists in nurturing growth and empowerment in Adamawa’s wheat fields, ensuring that the seeds of change she has sown endure for generations.

Nepal experienced a growing mental health crisis among women and families over the last two years, expounded by circumstances related to the COVID19 pandemic. The Nepal Police reported a sharp rise in suicides with about 16-18 suicides per day since the pandemic in 2020. Of these, 43% are said to be women. Among reasons related to this increase are unemployment, increased domestic violence, stress and fear.

(image from previous workshop for women and families facilitated by GPW Nepal)

Bidhi Adhikari, a fellow of the Global Peace Women Leadership Academy, sought to address the issue in her community through her project, “Mental Health Training to Married Women.” With the project, Bidhi sparked conversations surrounding mental health and care. She specifically targeted women struggling with access to mental health services. Bidhi and her team provided participating women with tools to spot warning signs of mental health. They also conducted two successive sessions on Mental Health issues and conditions and stigma surrounding it.

In the second phase, the participants learned practical ways of dealing with stress and emotions. It focused on mindfulness for emotion handling. Bidhi’s program featured interactive games to strengthen the understanding of mental health followed by a 20 minute discussion between the trainers and participants.

By the end of the program, 60 women knew about the basic knowledge on the importance of mental health, 50% knew about mindfulness and relaxation which helps in coping with negative emotion.

Bidhi hopes to find more partners so she can continue her work and provide training. Bidhi is a recipient of the Global Women Dream (GWD) Grant; a collaboration between Global Peace Women and Service for Peace Korea. GPW is proud to give wings to service minded women leaders like Bidhi who want to bring positive social transformation in their homes and in their societies.

Meet Aishwarya , one of our featured Peace Dreamers for the #FuelHerDream Campaign to raise funds to empower women and family Peace Dreamers around the world. Donate today to #FuelHerDream and other peace dreaming women and families.

She might come from humble beginnings, but Aishwarya is a rising woman leader and a passionate human rights advocate in India. Her story starts in Firozabad, India, the hub of the glass industry in the country and where many laborers call home. Most of these families don’t send their children to school. Instead, their children dutifully set off to work at the factory.

Aishwarya grew up with all three generations of her family. Her family always found ways to help children and families in the community. That is why together, Aishwarya and the family she loves founded the NGO Nirman to eradicate illiteracy and especially to encourage girls’ education.

When Aishwarya graduated from Law School, she formally established the NGO “Nirman: Initiatives for Life Skills and Education” following her experience with Global Peace Women Leadership Academy (GPWLA). This immersive program uplifts promising young women, instilling confidence, leadership skills, and education to become peace building leaders in their families, communities, and nation. GPWLA is changing the lives of young women like Aishwarya. But it doesn’t stop there. Aishwarya is changing the lives of so many others with the passion and enrichment she gained. Her NGO Nirman intends to empower, build resilience, and improve the education of underprivileged children.

When she began her journey, Aishwarya found that many parents were reluctant to send their children to her program, fearing fees and reservation costs. Determined to make the program accessible to all, Aishwarya informed them that it would be completely free. It wasn’t long before the community started signing up. Aishwarya still remembers the first child to enroll in the program: a 12-year-old boy who had never been to school.

With the help of her mother and friends, Aishwarya developed a curriculum for the program using the three Es (Education, Exposure, and Experience) approach, covering many topics and engagements such as arts and crafts, sanitation and hygiene, and child rights and sexual abuse. While Aishwarya struggled to convey the topic of sexual abuse to young children, the workshop topic proved to be essential as some girls eventually worked up the courage to speak out about the harassment they faced through their teachers under the garb of punishment. The teacher would eventually get expelled from the school.

“I objected when the teacher pinched me and told my mother about it and how it was wrong…” one girl described. “After that, my mother complained to the principal about the teacher, and he got removed from the school… I learned to say no and what is a bad touch.”

Aishwarya credits a major part of her success in creating the program to her experience in GPWLA. “GPWLA Enrichment was extremely helpful and therapeutic,” said Aishwarya. “It was lovely to see familiar faces every month. It was so warm and inspiring. I would say that the GPWLA enrichment program was beneficial in growing my leadership skills.”

Aishwarya’s time in GPWLA provided her with essential skills in organizing, time management, curriculum design, presentation, and project management. She connected with incredible women from different countries and learned how other countries tackled similar issues.

Aishwarya is currently a GPW Project Coordinator in India. She shared her vision to expand her NGO to a global level so that more children can access quality education and is grateful that GPW can be a platform for the transformative project.

We want to support more women leaders like her to bring peace, education, safety and hope to children, women and families worldwide.

My Experience at Hangang River Festa 2025

by Tahmina Supti

I have been on a journey to Korea and back to attend the Korean Dream Campaign at the Hangang River Festa 2025. As the only Bangladeshi, I felt embraced with love by my Filipina Titas and Ates. It was like finding another family in a land far from home.

This journey has touched me in ways I cannot fully express. Attending the sessions, meeting incredible leaders, and sharing with teammates made me think again and again about the meaning of the Korean Dream.

Korean War Memorial

The visit to the War Memorial of Korea was one of the most powerful experiences of my life. The president of the museum did not just tell us history—he opened his heart, sharing his gratitude and his dream. Walking through the exhibits, seeing the pictures of war, the broken belongings, the faces of people who suffered, I felt as if the past was speaking directly to me. Listening to the story of a man who escaped from North Korea shattered my heart. He spoke about his unbearable life there—his leg injured, his family left behind, and the haunting truth that he doesn’t even know if they are alive or how they are living. A life without family… it’s unbearable. Just imagining his loneliness brings tears to my eyes.

In the museum, I stood before the history written in blood and pain. I saw it unfold in front of me—the lives lost, the countless souls who suffered, the broken families torn apart. So many people died, so many dreams ended, and yet the pain still lives on in those who survived.

It was not just history on the wall—it was living grief. A grief that cries out for peace, for unity, for the chance that no one should ever again face such suffering. I couldn’t stop my tears. Instantly, it reminded me of Bangladesh’s Liberation War—what my parents and grandmother endured. The fear, the pain, the loss, but also the love that kept them alive. At that moment I realized—love, pain, and sorrow are the same for all humanity.

Han River Festa

And then, came the Han River Festa on 15th August. The Han River itself is a symbol of miracles—the river that carried South Korea from devastation to prosperity, the Miracle of the Han. Sitting there under the open sky, I watched the “One Drone, One Dream” program. The person sitting right beside me whispered, “I donated for one drone.” It touched me so deeply, the feelings of ownership!!! It touched me ! In that instant, I felt a strong bond between us—we were strangers, yet one family under God, united by the same dream.

When her drone flew into the sky, we didn’t just see a machine. We saw hope rising, faith soaring, and ownership settling deep inside us. It was as if God was reminding me: we are one family, and when we dream together, nothing is impossible.

South Korea has already shown the world the Miracle of the Han in economic prosperity. Now I believe with all my heart, the next miracle will be the miracle of reunification. And when that day comes, it will not just be Korea’s story—it will be the world’s story. A story of love, unity, and family under God.

This journey gave me not only knowledge but a new sense of responsibility. I believe in the Korean Dream, I believe in reunification, and I believe one day, history will record our names as people who did not just witness—but who loved, who acted, and who dreamed together.

I was able to see Dr. Hyun Jin Moon, Sir—right in front of me. The man whose quotes we study, whose vision and teachings we learn in every session, was giving his speech before my own eyes. It felt almost unreal, and I had goosebumps throughout. To witness the man of vision, the man with dreams, speak with such conviction was truly life-changing. And when he ended his speech with the words: “Those of you who pledge to stand with me to realize the Korean Dream, rise and shout Aju! Aju! Aju! May God bless you and your families.” —I felt my heart rise with him. So today, with all my heart, I say once more: Aju! Aju! Aju

What if a dream could transform an entire nation?

On April 26th at 1 PM UTC, hearts from across the world beat as one in the Korean Dream Study Series – Learning Circle 1, hosted by Global Peace Women.

It wasn’t just a meeting — it was a gathering of visionaries, led by hope and courage.
The session was graced by President Hanako Ikeno of Global Peace Women, whose unwavering belief in peace-building reminded us all why we dream in the first place.
Alongside her, Risa Perea — founder of “Imagine Your Korean Dream” and an alumna of the Global Peace Women Leadership Academy — shared her journey of volunteering across borders since 2015, carrying the light of service, education, and women’s empowerment wherever she goes.

But the true stars of the day were the visionary leaders who answered the call of vision:
From Nigeria, Muniratu and Aisha,

From Bangladesh and Indonesia, Tahmina,
From Uganda, Jalia,
From Cameroon, Linnes,
From Kenya, Everline,
From Nepal and India, Sristika.

Each leader brought a living piece of their nation’s soul — sharing philosophies and dreams that have sparked movements, toppled barriers, and ignited change across generations.
Together, we explored a profound truth:

A nation’s true transformation begins not in its streets, but in its vision. In the values that bind its people. In the dream that refuses to die.

We remembered the timeless belief that “all men are created equal, endowed by their Creator with unalienable rights”, and realized again — every voice matters. Every dream matters.
And when dreams are united under a common vision, the impossible becomes inevitable.

This was not just a study circle.
It was the planting of seeds that will grow into forests of peace.
It was the first step in a movement that will one day reshape our world.

At Global Peace Women, our vision of “One Family under God” drives our mission to promote harmony within families and communities, transcending boundaries of race, religion, and nationality. As part of the Sunshine Family Volunteer (SFV) initiative, volunteers embrace this profound vision, recognizing that we are all part of a larger global family. This unity was celebrated on International Friendship Day (IFD), where SFV volunteers across different regions came together to honor friendships and spread the message of peace, understanding, and solidarity.

IFD is a special occasion celebrated around the world on July 30th each year. This day is dedicated to honoring the bonds of friendship and promoting global unity. It’s a time to cherish the connections we have with others and to foster new relationships that contribute to a more peaceful world. The significance of IFD lies in its ability to bring people together, regardless of geographical, cultural, or social differences. It serves as a reminder of the power of friendship in bridging gaps and building stronger communities. People around the world we reinforce the values of understanding, empathy, and cooperation that are essential for a harmonious global society by celebrating this day.

This year, Sunshine Family Volunteers (SFV) took the spirit of IFD to heart with a series of impactful activities across Nigeria and beyond. From tree planting and clean-up campaigns to educational sessions and community outreach, SFV coordinators exemplified the true spirit of friendship and unity. Their efforts highlight the importance of coming together to support and uplift one another, making a positive difference in their communities and beyond.

Here’s a look at how SFV coordinators marked the occasion with their unique and meaningful projects:

Nigeria:

Uniting for Peace in Makurdi

Ngunan Tar, SFV Coordinator in Nigeria, organized a heartwarming event titled “Uniting for Peace to Celebrate International Friendship Day” in Makurdi, Benue State. With just two volunteers, Ngunan and her team reached out to 5 women and 6 children, visiting family friends, presenting gifts and discussing the mission of the Sunshine Family Volunteers and Global Peace Women (GPW). The day was marked by meaningful conversations about fostering peace within the family.

“We were delighted to share the essence of International Friendship Day with our friends and their guests. It was an opportunity to spread the message of peace and highlight the work of SFV and GPW,” Ngunan said.

Planting Trees for Friendship

In Kano State, Umar Aminu Umar led an activity titled “Plantingship for Friendship” at GSS Kofar Nassarawa. The event involved planting trees with school children and staff, alongside an orientation session on environmental stewardship. Despite challenges such as the school holidays and a late start, the event successfully planted nine seedlings and raised awareness about the importance of environmental care.

“Tree planting is a simple yet powerful way to connect with nature and each other. It was wonderful to see the students and teachers come together for this cause,” Umar reflected.

The session included discussions on symptoms, causes, and prevention methods, as well as a practical handwashing demonstration. The children engaged actively, reflecting the importance of such awareness programs.

“The children were eager to learn and ask questions. It’s encouraging to see their enthusiasm and commitment to applying what they’ve learned,” said Halima.

Aisha Bello organized a discussion on sexual harassment at Liberty Radio in Kaduna, reaching 100 individuals. The session highlighted the importance of family values in preventing societal issues and introduced the GPW and SFV initiatives.

“Raising awareness about sexual harassment and promoting family values are crucial steps in building a supportive community. It was a rewarding experience to see the positive engagement from the audience,” Aisha shared.

‍

Community Clean-Up Activity

In Abuja, Ofordu Stella led a clean-up activity, bringing together adults and children to pick up trash, weed the environment, and sort recyclable materials. This initiative not only cleaned the community but also fostered a sense of unity and shared responsibility for a healthier environment.

“Engaging the community in a clean-up activity was a great way to celebrate friendship and environmental stewardship. It was heartening to see everyone come together for a common cause,” Stella noted.

Muniratu Jibrin organized a reunion with university friends in Zaria, where she also introduced the Sunshine Family Volunteer Program. The event was a nostalgic and enlightening experience, reinforcing the value of maintaining strong relationships and family values.

“It was wonderful to reconnect with old friends and discuss how we can contribute to our communities through SFV,” Muniratu reflected.

Rosemary Musa used her school graduation ceremony to inspire students and staff about the SFV initiative and the importance of peace within the family. Her presentation reached 300 students and emphasized the role of family values in promoting peace.

“Using the graduation ceremony as a platform to discuss SFV was a meaningful way to reach a large audience and encourage them to be advocates of peace,” Rosemary said.

Honoring a Community Leader

Daniel David and his team honored Mr. Mang Davou, a respected community leader in Plateau State, with a gesture of appreciation. The event included a shared meal and discussions about SFV’s mission, celebrating Mr. Davou’s long-standing dedication to youth mentorship.

“Honoring Mr. Davou was a heartfelt way to acknowledge his contributions and share the SFV message with him and his family,” Daniel expressed.

Binta Paul Bobai and the Shalom Peace Club engaged with market women in Kaduna to discuss the GPW mission and the importance of serving as agents of peace. The event included the distribution of token gifts and emphasized the role of women in fostering community harmony.

“It was rewarding to connect with local women and share the SFV message. Their response was positive and encouraging,” Binta noted.

On July 8, 2024, the President of GPW Uruguay, Psi. Nibia Pizzo, was interviewed by Dr. Soraya Rodríguez Ramos, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and a prominent advocate for women’s rights, for the platform “Mujeres al Frente” (Women on the Frontline). This interview spotlighted the critical efforts of GPW Uruguay in promoting women’s well-being, especially among those from disadvantaged backgrounds in Uruguay and across Latin America.

Over the past 11 years, since its establishment in 2013, GPW Uruguay has been steadfast in its mission to empower women and girls facing significant social challenges. Psi. Nibia, a psychologist with a deep commitment to social justice, elaborated on the various initiatives undertaken by GPW Uruguay. These initiatives include:

Empowering Teenage Mothers: GPW Uruguay has focused on supporting teenage mothers who are solely responsible for raising their children. These young women often face overwhelming challenges, and the chapter’s work aims to provide them with the resources, education, and emotional support needed to thrive.

Supporting Girls in Foster Care: The chapter works closely with girls and adolescents living in foster homes under the protection of the National Institute for Children and Adolescents of Uruguay (INAU). These girls, often separated from their families due to violations of their rights, receive care and guidance to rebuild their lives.

Assisting Incarcerated Women: GPW Uruguay also extends its support to women incarcerated in the Female Prison Unit No. 5 of Uruguay. The chapter’s programs aim to rehabilitate these women, helping them to reintegrate into society with dignity and purpose.

During the interview, Psi. Nibia highlighted the indispensable role of women as the backbone of the family unit. She emphasized that women are not only central to the education of their children but also play a crucial role in transmitting ethical values and universal virtues that are essential for building healthy and peaceful societies.

“Working with women in socially vulnerable situations is not just about addressing their immediate needs; it is about investing in the future of our children, our nations, and the world,” Psi. Nibia’s insights reflected a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of women’s empowerment and societal progress.

Global Peace Women seeks to foster peace and prosperity through the empowerment of women worldwide. GPW chapters around the globe share a commitment to supporting women in various capacities, recognizing that women’s leadership and well-being are crucial to achieving global peace. GPW’s global initiatives align with the values highlighted by Dr. Pizzo—values such as responsibility, compassion, and perseverance, which are integral to our approach to peacebuilding. By addressing the unique challenges faced by women in different regions, GPW chapters contribute to a collective effort to create a more peaceful world.

On July 30th, in commemoration of International Friendship Day, Sunshine Family Volunteers (SFV) coordinators across the globe celebrated in their own unique ways, surrounded by family and friends. Each coordinator took the opportunity to reflect on the importance of friendship, not just in their personal lives but also in their volunteer work. Among other activities, coordinators organized small gatherings with family and friends, and shared stories of the friendships they have has built through volunteering. The emphasis was on the value of collaboration and mutual support in strengthening community bonds.

In each country, these celebrations were marked by a deep sense of gratitude and connection. The coordinators, though physically apart, were united by their shared mission to promote the values of friendship and community. By celebrating in their own locales, they highlighted the universal nature of these values, showing that no matter where one is in the world, the bonds of friendship can be nurtured and cherished.

Here is how some of our SFV coordinators commemorated the day:

International Youth Day (IYD) is celebrated globally to recognize the critical role of young people in driving positive change and shaping the future of their communities and the world. It serves as a platform to raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities faced by youth and to amplify their voices in various spheres of life. This year’s theme, “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World,” emphasized the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle environmental challenges and promote sustainability.

On August 12, 2024, Sunshine Family Volunteers (SFV) marked International Youth Day with various impactful activities across different countries globally. The activities carried out by SFV volunteers across different countries, such as tree planting in Nigeria and community clean-ups in Bangladesh, directly aligned with this year’s theme. These initiatives not only empowered youth to take action on environmental issues but also fostered a sense of responsibility and unity, demonstrating the power of green skills in building a sustainable future.

At Global Peace Women we believe that youth are the key drivers to fulfill our ‘One Family under God’ vision. Dreaming big, living for the greater good, teamwork and ownership are the core values that all youth should have in their mind and actions for raising leadership. SFV activities are the best place for these young volunteers to experience the vision and core values firsthand and become leaders.

In Nigeria, SFV volunteers undertook several initiatives geared towards community service and environmental conservation. Dorcas Kadiri, leading the Eureka SFV Club in Bwari Abuja, organized a community clean-up and introduced SFV’s mission and vision to the neighborhood. “Promoting peace and unity through community service is an exciting activity and a way of extending love to our neighbors,” she reflected on the day’s efforts.

In Yola, Nigeria, the Unique Manga SFV Club, coordinated by Manga Ataitiya Elkanah, held a tree-planting event titled “Planting Trees for Friendship.” The initiative aimed at fostering unity in the community while addressing climate change. Volunteers planted trees, and discussed with the participants about the importance of environmental protection. The event concluded with a call to action for families and friends to contribute to saving the planet.

In Kano State, Nigeria, the Wayout Family Club, coordinated by Sotonye Christy J Smith, organized a three-day youth empowerment program. The event, held at Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil, focused on building workable relationships that contribute to peaceful and exciting families. The program included concerts, empowerment nights, and mentorship sessions, equipping youth with the skills and knowledge needed to create positive change. Sotonye shared on the importance of raising and empowering youth, stating, “It is commonly known that youths are the future of every nation. Therefore, when we raise and empower youths, an entire generation is preserved.”

Daniel David Dalyop led the youth of COCIN RCC Turu, Jos, Plateau state in Nigeria, in an annual convention that coincided with International Youth Day. The event brought together young people from seven different communities, introducing them to the SFV Program and encouraging them to spread peace and love through various media. The convention included games and discussions that fostered unity and motivated participants to become active volunteers and agents of change in their communities.

In Bangladesh, SFV volunteers celebrated International Youth Day through activities that combined creativity with community engagement. Tahmina led a group of 20 SFV family members in a community clean-up and mural painting event. “Seeing our neighborhood shine brighter with each stroke of paint filled our hearts with joy. We believe in the power of youth to change the world – all it takes is love, compassion, and awareness,” she said, capturing the spirit of the day.

In Sylhet community, a group of young teachers, led by Riyaz, organized a campaign and discussion event focused on the future role of youth in Bangladesh. The significance of Youth Day was emphasized, inspiring participants to take an active role in shaping the future of their country.

In addition, Shakilur Rahman from Bangladesh arranged a meeting to celebrate Youth Day, focusing on the need for youth to lead the country’s recovery from recent violence. The meeting discussed strategies for peaceful nation-building and the role of SFV activities in this effort, concluding with a celebratory cake to mark the occasion.

In Thailand, Parichat participated in the Youth Forum 2024, where she introduced the concept of Sunshine Family Volunteering to a broader audience. She distributed flyers in Thai to encourage youth participation in volunteer activities. Her efforts aimed to inspire more young people to join SFV and contribute to their communities through meaningful volunteer work.

The diverse activities carried out by SFV volunteers on International Youth Day highlighted the potential of young people to drive change. Global Peace Women supports and empowers the youth, recognizing their vital role in building a more peaceful and better world. Learn more about our work.
