GPF Paraguay Leads the Way in Building Strong Families and Peaceful Societies

Families are the heart of every thriving society. They are where children first learn love, responsibility, and how to live with others in harmony. At their best, families nurture character, build confidence, and provide the emotional grounding needed to face the world.

Modern life has brought extraordinary changes, but with them, new and complex strains on families. Economic pressures, shifting cultural norms, and rising individualism have quietly worn down the stability of the home. Add to that the influence of policies and ideas that devalue the family unit, and it becomes clear: families today are navigating a storm without a clear compass.

Yet it is precisely in this uncertainty that the role of the family becomes even more vital. Families are not just private spaces of affection; they are where values are formed, identities are shaped, and the roots of peaceful communities take hold. A strong family doesn’t just benefit those within it; it anchors society itself.

The Global Peace Foundation (GPF) and its partner in peacebuilding, Global Peace Women (GPW), work across borders to strengthen families. Together, GPF and GPW advocate for family as a transformative space that builds peace from the home outward. Our initiatives emphasize values-based parenting, shared responsibilities between mothers and fathers, and mentorship across generations. By focusing on character, service, and spiritual integrity, GPF and GPW have developed practical tools and campaigns to equip families to raise ethical, resilient individuals capable of contributing to peaceful communities.

Inspired by these shared principles, GPF Paraguay has launched a bold and timely initiative to restore and defend the family’s role as the cornerstone of a just and thriving society. Responding to rising global pressures and ideological trends that undermine family structures, GPF Paraguay, under the leadership of long-time GPF member Juan Carlos Tominaga, has rolled out three strategic programs aimed at cultural renewal and societal cohesion.

  1. The Family Coalition
This initiative unites public and private institutions in a collaborative effort to shape policies, programs, and cultural values that reinforce family well-being. The coalition seeks to influence national dialogue, promote family-friendly legislation, and create platforms that elevate the family as a central agent of social development.
  2. Parental Functionality
Recognizing that strong families begin with equipped and empowered parents, this program provides resources and training to help parents build nurturing and stable homes. Investing in parental skills and moral leadership fosters environments where children can grow into responsible, compassionate citizens.
  3. New Generation
This initiative targets youth, particularly university students and young professionals, channeling their energy and idealism into building a culture of family and peace. Through mentorship and innovation, the program nurtures a generation ready to advance this vision with creativity and moral clarity.

Each program is intentionally designed to respond to the specific needs of its audience, ensuring that efforts are both efficient and impactful. Activities include nationwide awareness campaigns, the dissemination of educational materials, capacity-building workshops, and dynamic community outreach events.

GPF Paraguay’s long-term vision is as ambitious as it is necessary: to institutionalize family advocacy through the creation of a Ministry of the Family, first in Paraguay, and eventually in at least nine South American nations. Early momentum is already visible in collaborative projects with civil society and public leaders in Colombia, Peru, and Paraguay, reflecting a growing consensus on the centrality of the family in national development.

The work of GPF and GPW, brought to life through initiatives like those in Paraguay, affirms a timeless truth: strong families build strong nations. As cultural and political forces continue to shape public life, there is an urgent need to reinforce the moral and social fabric beginning at home. GPF Paraguay’s comprehensive approach offers a model for how to do just that, empowering parents, engaging youth, and mobilizing institutions toward a shared vision of peace and prosperity grounded in family values.
